Once I restored from Time Machine and transferred my licenses, everything worked perfectly. I ended up getting a 2018 Mac Mini and so far it seems to have been the right choice. When it comes to upgrades, I'm more "if it ain't broke don't fix it" vs "I must constantly stay current". Sure an M1 would have 5x, but the tradeoffs take it down a notch in my eyes. 100% back up and running in less than a day, but now with 3x the CPU. It would require at least $2000 extra to replace the stuff that's not M1 compatible (older UAD, Native Instruments hardware, etc.).

Plus too much of my favorite hardware and software would have been left in the dust by moving to M1. If I was only using M1 native software and ITB that's one thing, but Rosetta seems like treading water performance-wise. In the end, compatibility and lack of disruption is way more important to me than raw power.

It's been really helpful as I was overdue for a studio computer upgrade (2012 i7 MBP) and on the fence about switching to an M1. Thanks to everyone posting their experiences on this thread. AUv3? Unfortunately, I have had one AU plug-in that isn't fully functional when running inside a native Live and that one won't be updated as far as I know. Though some functions, like plug-in MIDI out, as far as I know, won't work with AUs. Works fine for the most part for me for the ones I do use now in native Live. It remains one of the few ways to run intel plug-ins inside a native DAW. A long time ago AUs were discouraged from Ableton, but I'm not sure why exactly. Typically there are indeed generally very few problems with most AUs in my somewhat limited experience, but know your plug-ins.

Most of my AU are not Apple Silicon native apps.Note that some makers like Waves only support VSTs (includes VST3) in Ableton Live since a long time, which means it might work anyway, but if you encounter issues it's unsupported with what that entails. For those running Ableton 11.1 - I have an M1 Mac Mini, and only use AU instead of VST.
